The aim is for the first phase to be as long as possible.<\/p><p>A healthy and correctly connected alternator should be able to raise the voltage of discharged batteries to just over 13 V. Then it should stay<br \/>there for the entire time that the batteries are receiving a lot of current.<\/p><p>If the charge reception is good, as in the graph, the alternator will take at least an hour before it rises above 14 V.
