Frequently asked questions about generators and charging systems

It is easy to improve an old electrical system. Do the work step by step and achieve good results with a few simple changes. Often, the generator is where the old electrical system is at its worst, so make sure to start there.

1. Replace the negative cable that runs between the generator and the battery bank. Dimension it correctly, as it is often undersized and of poor quality in terms of the connections. It is an investment of a few hundred kronor that often makes a big difference.

2. Expand the battery bank with an additional marine battery. It does not have to cost more than 800–900 SEK and significantly increases the system’s ability to accept charge.

3. If you have a split-charge diode, replace it with a split-charge relay. Read more about why here.
